Verbmobil
1997-01-01 – 2000-12-31
Verbmobil was a long-term project of the Federal Ministry of Education, Science, Research and Technology (BMBF, Projekträger DLR). After the successful evaluation of the research prototype on October 24, 1996, in Munich, the project ontinued into its second phase until the year 2000. Its aim was to give Germany a top international position in language technology and its economical application in the next millenium by cooperation and concentration of as many specialists as possible from industry and science. The long-sighted aim reached, was the development of a mobile translation system for the translation of spontaneous speech in face-to-face situations.

PEACH
2001-12-01 – 2005-12-01
The objective of Peach is that of studying and experimenting with
advanced technologies that can enhance cultural heritage appreciation
by creating an interactive and personalized guide. The project is
funded by the Autonomous Province of Trento under the Fondo Unico
program. The two major partners are ITC-irst and DFKI. The DFKI is
developing a life-like character technology working on both
stationary- and mobile systems in a coherent way.

FLUIDUM
2002-01-12 – 2005-03-12
The goal of FLUIDUM is to develop common interaction techniques and metaphors for differently scaled ubiquitous computing scenarios. In analogy to a window manager for desktop PCs, an environment manager for ubiquitous computing environments (Fluid Manager) will be developed and tested within the scenarios of an instrumented desk (Fluid Desk), an instrumented room (Fluid Room) and an instrumented building (Fluid Building).

SPECTER
2003-01-01 – 2005-12-31SPECTER: Context- and Affect-Aware Personal Assistance in Instrumented EnvironmentsSPECTER is a personal assistant that keeps track of its user's actions and affective states. It creates a personal journal which, together with a user model learned on the basis of it, supports the generation of context-appropriate recommendations and actions. Application scenarios for SPECTER include visits of company representatives to other companies, participation in trade fairs, and assistance during shopping trips. In order to demonstrate the project goals a prototype is currently developed, which combines semantic web technologies with an instrumented environment. Research in the SPECTER project addresses six interrelated topics, focusing primarily on issues that have received relatively little attention in previous research.
